Day 229

I woke to the pain of a headache, it was 6 a.m. and the humidity was already coating me in sweat.  I remembered once again why I loved Colorado so much.  No muggy nights! No muggy days!  No muggy feeling ever!

On my way to breakfast I was tempted by Shelli to accompany her and Beth on the train to Salzburg.  They planned to ride back 10 k to Passau, then board the train to cross the border from Germany into Austria and end up in Salzburg.  It sounded like a perfect plan to me.

We had no trouble getting our bikes loaded into the baggage car.  The conductor helped us arrange them, just so, then we sat down to relax and watch the magnificent scenery along the way.  Austrian homes all seem to have flowers cascading from their flower boxes. They take such pride in their homes, the yards are full of flowers and gardens beyond belief.  I had to restrain myself from pointing every time I saw a beautiful sight.  There were so many to enjoy, so I enjoyed them silently.

When we arrived in Salzburg, we discovered it was the end of their music festival.  The town was absolutely full of people from all over the world.  The streets were literally "alive with the sound of music!"  Of course this is where the "Sound of Music" came from and it is where Mozart was born.

That's me posing in the distance, Hi Larry!

Salzburg has a majestic fortress high up on the hill, there are bike paths on both sides of the river.  It is al lovely town.  Too bad there are so many people visiting it!

The town was celebrating with cows.  Yes, Cows!  Throughout the town there were dozens of brightly painted cows.  It was such a delight.  Children were posed on them for family photos.  Tourists perched on the cows for the album, each cow was different and unique.  I found myself wandering the streets, just looking for the next special cow.

Al the alien had a great time in Salzburg.  The best part was when Dave and Mary Mould gave him a little alien they had found.  Now Al has someone just like him to take care of.  They are inseparable.  I am worried about too much weight on the rear of my bike.  If this family keeps growing I might need heavier spokes.  Oh well, guess I will just take it step as it comes.  Maybe we will get a sidecar.....

to be continued...go to Munich
